CHN Analysis (Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen)
Bureau Veritas provides CHN testing according to ASTM D5291 standards. Our specialised equipment and trained chemists can support you in analysing fuel samples using the liquid injection method, which means faster turn-around-times and more precise results.
CHN analysis is a crucial analytical technique used to determine the elemental composition of (renewable) fuels in terms of carbon (C), hydrogen (H), and nitrogen (N). This information is vital for assessing the quality, origin (C-14 content), energy content, and combustion characteristics of fuels, including renewable fuels and biofuels.
Our CHN testing method and process is certified by the Dutch Accreditation Council (RVA) under the ISO 17025 accreditation, which is in line with the Dutch Emissions Authority’s (NEA) requirements for the analysis of renewable fuels and biofuel feedstocks.
CHN Sampling and Analysis Services
The CHN testing method can be applied to all fuels that have a final boiling point below 400 °C such as:
- Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)
- Biodiesel (B5, B20)
- FAME (Fatty Acid Methyl Esters)
- HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil)
- HEFA (Hydrotreated Esters and Fatty Acids)
- Diesel
- Gas oil
- Jet Fuel
- Bio-ethanol
In addition to these services, we also provide customised solutions to meet your specific needs.
