Inspection of lightning protection systems
Bureau Veritas independently inspects lightning protection systems against the standards and requirements applicable to your installation.
Independent inspection of your lightning protection system
A lightning protection system (LPS) helps reduce damage and safety risks caused by lightning strikes. It may consist of an external system that protects the structure against the effects of direct lightning strikes and an internal system that protects against overvoltage caused by a strike in the surrounding area. Bureau Veritas independently inspects whether the installation complies with the technical and safety requirements applicable during its use.
NEN 1014 / NEN-EN-IEC 62305
The NEN 1014 and NEN-EN-IEC 62305 standards set requirements for the installation, maintenance and inspection of lightning protection systems. The service described on this page concerns the inspection of the external system that protects against direct lightning strikes.
The purpose of the inspection is to assess whether the lightning protection system still complies with the technical and safety requirements that apply to it. The inspection also identifies defects that may have arisen after commissioning and that could impair operation or create a potential hazard.
During an inspection in the use phase, Bureau Veritas assesses compliance with the standards applicable to the installation. The inspection is performed against the inspection requirements set out in the relevant standard.
Inspection methodology
Depending on the year in which the system was installed, the inspection methodology is based on the provisions of NEN 1014, Chapter 11, Inspection and maintenance, or NEN-EN-IEC 62305-3, Chapter 7, Maintenance and inspection of an LPS. The methodology falls within the scope of accreditation by the Dutch Accreditation Council (RvA), giving clients assurance of an expert approach and an independent and impartial inspection. It is also embedded in a quality management system and supporting technical reference documents.
Independent technical experts acting on behalf of the RvA periodically assess our accredited activities. Bureau Veritas Industrial Services has extensive experience with industrial installations, utility buildings, healthcare environments and public buildings. This enables our inspectors to perform an independent, high-quality assessment.
