Bureau Veritas inspects your water mist system
Water mist systems have been used in the maritime sector for many decades. Today, they are also increasingly used to protect buildings against fire and its effects. Water mist systems are similar to sprinklers. Whereas a sprinkler produces relatively large droplets, a water mist system creates a very fine mist. The fine droplets are intended to absorb heat efficiently and support fire suppression.
Bureau Veritas independently assesses water mist systems against the documented design basis and relevant requirements. Depending on the scope of the inspection, we assess the documented design basis, the detailed design and the completed installation. This provides an independent opinion on whether the system complies with the documented requirements within the agreed scope. Where the agreed assignment includes inspection of the completed system, an inspection certificate may be issued following a positive final inspection conclusion.
Applications of water mist systems
Water mist systems can be used in many different situations, depending on the characteristics of the system and the fire scenario. They can, for example, be installed in data centres, care homes, car parks, museums and detention centres. A water mist system can also be used to provide local protection for equipment such as machinery.
Applicable standards
Standards and technical references that may apply to water-mist-system inspections include FM 4-2 (Water Mist Systems), NFPA 750 (Standard on Water Mist Fire Protection Systems), NPR-CEN/TS 14972 (Fixed firefighting systems - Water mist systems - Design and installation) and VdS 3188 (Wassernebel-Sprinkleranlagen und Wassernebel-Löschanlagen, Hochdruck-Systeme).
Inspection under the CCV inspection schemes
The inspection may be carried out against derived objectives under the applicable CCV inspection scheme for fire protection. Depending on the scope of the assignment, Bureau Veritas assesses the documented design basis, the detailed design and the completed installation. Where the agreed assignment includes inspection of the completed system, an inspection certificate may be issued following a positive final inspection conclusion.
Accreditation
For inspection activities that fall within the accredited scope, Bureau Veritas is accredited by the Dutch Accreditation Council (RvA) under registration number I 002 as an independent Type A inspection body. Depending on the system and agreed scope, this may include inspections against derived objectives and inspections of conformity with applicable standards.
